Hi Kaileigh!

I really appreciate you for enlightening us on the “cultural divide” between the white population of Grosse Pointe and that of the neighboring black population of Detroit. I did not have that much knowledge of the racial barriers that existed in Michigan before.

Even in Ontario, I feel that an “invisible” racial barrier exists within the different cities.

For instance, the city of London, Ontario, is known to have a majority white population with well-built infrastructure. The city is also known to be secure with lower crime rates in comparison to other cities in Ontario.

On the other hand, different parts such as Scarborough have larger visible minority populations with higher crime rates. The infrastructure for these neighborhoods are in decent condition, but can be built more efficiently.

Because of these two distinctions, many white people that live in Scarborough neighborhoods are stereotyped to be outsiders and vice versa.

I am glad to hear that there is a plan to create a visual arts center on the border between Grosse Pointe and Detroit. I hope that one day Ontario can similarly develop projects that can bridge the different populations of Ontario more in unison with each other.
